Question 1

Can I renew my QID in Metrash2?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Open Residency, then Renew Residency Permit, choose the person, check the passport details, pick the renewal period, pay by card and choose delivery or kiosk pickup. Employees are usually renewed by their employer; family members by the head of family who sponsors them.

Question 2

How early can I renew my QID?

Accepted Answer

Metrash2 shows the renewal option when the permit is eligible. Renew before it expires: an expired residence permit can lead to fines and can block other services. Check the exact rules in the app or on the Ministry of Interior portal.

Question 3

How much does QID renewal cost?

Accepted Answer

The fee is set by the Ministry of Interior and depends on the permit type and renewal period. Metrash2 shows the exact amount before you pay. Qatar Online doesn't list a figure because the Ministry doesn't publish one outside the app.

Question 4

Why won't Metrash2 let me renew?

Accepted Answer

Common reasons are unpaid traffic fines or other outstanding amounts, an expired passport, or a pending Medical Commission exam. Settle the amounts, update your passport, and try again. If it still fails, visit a Ministry of Interior service center.

Question 5

How do I get my new QID card?

Accepted Answer

After paying, choose delivery by post or printing at a self-service kiosk or service center. The digital QID in Metrash2 updates once the renewal is approved.

Question 6

Can I sponsor my family through Metrash2?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Choose Visa Services, then Apply for Family Residence Visa, enter each family member's details, upload the documents and pay the fee shown. You can track the request in the app.

Question 7

Who can sponsor their family?

Accepted Answer

Sponsorship conditions, such as job type and salary level, are set by the Ministry of Interior and can change. Confirm the current conditions on the Ministry portal or in Metrash2 before you apply.

Question 8

What documents do I need to sponsor my family?

Accepted Answer

Usually: your marriage certificate and children's birth certificates attested in your home country and by Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, your salary certificate or employment contract, your tenancy contract, and passport copies for each family member.

Question 9

What happens after the family visa is approved?

Accepted Answer

Print or share the entry visa from Metrash2. After your family arrives, each person needs the Medical Commission exam and fingerprints. Once cleared, apply in Metrash2 to issue their residence permits and QIDs.

Question 10

Can I sponsor my parents or other relatives?

Accepted Answer

Parents and other relatives are usually sponsored on a different type of visa, with stricter conditions than for a spouse and children. See our guide on bringing parents and relatives, and confirm the rules with the Ministry of Interior.

Question 11

Who needs the Medical Commission exam?

Accepted Answer

New residents getting a residence permit, people changing sponsor, and residents returning after more than six months abroad. This applies to workers and family members alike.

Question 12

What does the medical test include?

Accepted Answer

It includes a blood test and a chest X-ray to screen for infectious diseases. Fingerprints (biometrics) are taken as part of the residence process.

Question 13

How much is the medical test and how long does it take?

Accepted Answer

The Ministry of Public Health lists the fee as QAR 100 per person, with results normally within about a week. Go as soon as possible after arriving in Qatar.

Question 14

Can I do the medical test before traveling?

Accepted Answer

For many work visa applicants, yes. Qatar Visa Centers in several countries do the medical exam and fingerprints before you travel. Check whether there is a center in your country on the Qatar Visa Center website.

Question 15

What if the medical result is not cleared?
