Workers in Qatar can change employer through the Ministry of Labour process. A no-objection certificate is not the legal starting requirement, but you must follow the official notification, notice and contract steps for your situation.

Quick answer: Submit the change through the Ministry of Labour system, observe the legal notice period, have the new employer authenticate the new contract, then complete the employer and QID update.

Before submitting

  • Read your current employment contract and note your start date.
  • Keep copies of your QID, passport and signed contract.
  • Confirm the new employer is ready to complete its part of the electronic process.
  • Do not resign informally or pay an intermediary for a promised approval.

Notice period

ILO guidance describing Qatar's labor reforms states that the notice period is one month during the first two years of employment and two months after two years. Special circumstances, probation or a legal dispute can affect the route, so seek Ministry guidance for your case.

Step-by-step

  1. Agree the offer in writing. Check job title, salary, allowances, work location and start date.
  2. Submit the employer-change request. Use the Ministry of Labour electronic service and enter accurate contact details.
  3. Keep the request number. Use it to track the application and respond to any official message.
  4. Complete the applicable notice period. Continue following your contract unless an authority directs otherwise.
  5. New employer authenticates the contract. Review the final electronic contract before accepting it.
  6. Complete the employer transfer. The new employer follows the official Ministry/MOI process.
  7. Update and check the QID. Confirm the employer and profession details when the updated record is issued.

If the request is delayed or disputed

Check the status through the official Ministry or MOI inquiry service. Keep salary records, the contract, request confirmation and messages. For unpaid wages, retaliation or a disagreement over notice, contact the Ministry of Labour rather than relying on social media advice.

Fees and timing

The authorities do not publish one guaranteed completion time that applies to every employer change. Qatar Online also found no official basis for an “agent fee.” Review only charges shown by an official service and ask the Ministry about a delay.

Continue with work permits and contract authentication, renewing your QID, and QID explained.
